Coral Reef Conservation

Papua is the largest province located at the eastern tip of Indonesia. Biodiversity, traditional culture and diverse natural resources make Papua in the world spotlight. Not only the captivating beauty of the land covered by tall trees, but the underwater beauty is so tempting that international tourists are willing to come all the way just to see the coral reefs and the animals inside. After successfully conserving coral reefs in Kep Misool, PEP Papua Field expanded its program to more challenging areas on Soop Island. For the 2022 – 2023 period, together with the Sustainable Coral Reef Pokmawas, a community empowerment-based coral reef conservation program has succeeded in rehabilitating 1,348 coral reef fragments with an area of 150 m2. a quite satisfying achievement in a fairly short time.
