In Welcoming Indonesia's 80th Independence Day, PHE Affirms Its Position as a Key Contributor to National Energy Sovereignty and Oil & Gas Self-Sufficiency

JAKARTA – PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), as Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding, plays a pivotal role as a main contributor in realizing national energy sovereignty and oil & gas self-sufficiency. It has been achieved through significant oil and gas production growth as well as the discovery of new potential oil and gas resources.

Currently, PHE manages 24% of domestic oil and gas blocks and contributes 69% to national oil production and 37% to national gas production. In running its business, PHE continues to maximize its legacy business by increasing upstream production, maintaining baseline output, and investing in production enhancement. As of the first semester of 2025, PHE recorded oil production of 557 thousand barrels of oil per day (MBOPD) and gas production of 2,8 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD).

“In addition to increasing production, the lifeline of the upstream oil and gas company is how we prepare reserves by continuously seeking new resources that can contribute to boosting national oil and gas production,” said PHE Corporate Secretary, Hermansyah Y Nasroen.

Until now, PHE has completed the drilling of 404 development wells, 628 workover activities, and 18.714 well service activities. In its effort to secure national energy resilience, PHE has also been aggressive in exploration activities, recording a 3D seismic survey covering 539 km² in the first half of 2025.

PHE will continue to unlock potential from various aspects to achieve its targets. PHE has also completed drilling 8 exploration wells. From these exploration activities up to the first half of 2025, PHE secured an additional 2C contingent resources of 804 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE). In addition, it recorded an increase in proven (P1) oil and gas reserves of 63 MMBOE.

These achievements are inseparable from the contribution and hard work of all regional operations and subsidiaries. At the beginning of 2025, through its affiliate PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan Zona 4 Prabumulih, PHE recorded a remarkable milestone with the BNG-064 well test result exceeding the initial target by 990%.

The BNG-064 well represents PHE’s commitment to supporting the national target of 1 million barrels of oil per day (BOPD). Located in the Benuang Block D structure, part of Field Adera, the BNG-064 well successfully produced 1.400 BOPD and 4,51 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD), far surpassing its initial target of 190 BOPD and 0,15 MMSCFD.

The outstanding success of well BNG-064 was followed by the discovery of a new well, BNG-067, in the North West Benuang Area. This well recorded oil production of 660,34 BOPD, or 440% of its initial target of 150 BOPD. It also produced 0,807 MMSCFD of gas, or 207% of the proposed target of 0,39 MMSCFD. The above-target production came from the TAF K1 layer, which had never previously produced. Furthermore, there remains potential in other layers that will be tested further to obtain optimal production.

Other notable achievements include the successful drilling of the EPN-002 well in onshore West Java and 3D seismic acquisition in several onshore Sumatra working areas, and the signing of Production Sharing Contracts (PSC) for the Melati and Binaiya Working Areas, which were awarded through the first and second bidding rounds in 2024.

In addition, several Project Developments are being prepared to come on-stream in the second semester of 2025. These include the strategic development of the Akasia Bagus Gathering Station (SP ABG) EP, designed to process oil and gas with a total capacity of 9.000 barrels of liquid per day (BLPD) and 22 MMSCFD, as well as the Sisi Nubi Project, which is critical to boosting gas and condensate production with an average design capacity of 30 MMSCFD per platform.

The Minas CEOR Project in Area A Stage-1 is also underway, injecting chemical fluids into reservoirs to increase the recovery factor by 17–22%. Meanwhile, the OO-OX Field Project is estimated to add 2.996 BOPD of oil and 21,26 MMSCFD of gas production.

PHE is also aggressively evaluating new venture opportunities by sharpening initiatives to identify new exploration potential. Going forward, with massive and aggressive activities, including several ongoing joint studies and new venture projects, it is projected to add to the Exploration Working Area portfolio of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding.

PHE reaffirmed its commitment to adhering to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and sustainable practices, having been a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) since June 2022. PHE also upholds zero tolerance on bribery through the Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS), certified to ISO 37001:2016.

With this global recognition, PHE aims to solidify its reputation as a world-class oil and gas company, championing environmental responsibility, social progress, and exemplary governance.
