PT.Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) Sumatera Regional, a Part of Subholding Upstream Pertamina, Discovers Hydrocarbons through Anggrek Violet Exploration Well (AVO)-001 Drilling

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) Sumatra Regional, a part of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, has once again discovered hydrocarbons, this time from the drilling of the Anggrek Violet Exploration Well (AVO)-001 in the Pertamina EP Working Area located in South Sumatera, on Tuesday (23/01).

The Anggrek Violet well was spudded on November 13, 2023, using Rig 01.2 operated by PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (PDSI) and successfully proved hydrocarbons through Drill Stem Testing (DST) #3 on January 23, 2024, with an extended flow gas test rate of 0.13 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) and oil of 218 barrels oil per day (BOPD).

The Anggrek Violet (AVO)-001 well is located approximately 10 km southeast of the Mambang field, which has been explored since 1901. Exploration efforts in the Lematang Highlands area began in 2006 with 2D seismic acquisition and drilling in 2009. These efforts continued with 3D seismic data acquisition in 2010.

The evaluation results of several exploration wells indicate the need for new concepts to mitigate drilling risks, so that previous less favorable results do not hinder progress but act as guidance and reinforcement of potential, creating new opportunities to prove the presence of undiscovered hydrocarbons. From the evaluation conducted on seismic data using various methods, such as seismic attributes, new play concepts, and comprehensive studies, the Anggrek Prospect Complex was discovered, consisting of several prospects with stratigraphic trap exploration plays and combinations with structural traps.

Yudy Nugraha, Senior Manager Relations PHR Sumatera Regional, stated that the Anggrek Violet Exploration Well (AVO)-001 is a play opener and proof that the hydrocarbon volume in the Lematang Highlands is still promising. "With the discovery of 100% oil hydrocarbons in the Anggrek Violet well, it is hoped that new opportunities will be opened for exploration drilling with stratigraphic trap play concepts in other areas in South Sumatra," said Yudy.

This first hydrocarbon discovery in 2024 is a tangible manifestation of PHR Sumatera Regional's commitment to add new oil and gas resources and reserves in the South Sumatera Basin. PHR Sumatera Regional is also committed to conduct safe, effective, and optimal upstream oil and gas operations to continue contributing significantly to increase reserves and achieving national oil and gas production targets, which is 12 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD) of gas and 1 million barrels per day (MBOPD) of oil by 2030
