PT Pertamina EP Sangatta Field Achieves Highest Daily Oil Production Since 1987

Sangatta – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangatta Field, part of Pertamina's Subholding Upstream Regional Kalimantan, has recorded its highest oil production level, achieving 3,545 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) on March 24, 2024. This production level is the highest since 1987.
This milestone was achieved through the successful development well ST-217, which contributed 269 BOPD since it began production on March 20, 2024, and the workover well ST-194, which added 206 BOPD since March 21, 2024. PEP Sangatta Field operates under Pertamina's Upstream Subholding Regional 3 Zona 9.
Andre Wijanarko, General Manager of Zona 9, explained that this production achievement was the result of an aggressive development strategy implemented over the past two years. "A total of 20 drilling wells have been put on production (POP) and 15 workover wells have been completed at the Sangatta Field. The increased success ratio in these wells is also due to passive seismic activities and Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) surveys conducted at the Sangatta Structure," he stated.
Andre emphasized that the company employs the best plans and technologies to maintain production at mature oil and gas fields. "This production achievement demonstrates tangible results from our efforts to mitigate natural production decline and sustain production levels at the fields we manage," he said.
Andre also noted that one of the company's positive impact initiatives is the synergy in risk mitigation through a collective and synergized effort via the Borderless Joint Operation between PEP and PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS). In the Sangatta area, oil production of 511 BOPD is derived from three borderless wells that have been POP since 2023.
Additionally, Budi Darmawan, Manager of Subsurface Development Area 2, explained that the Continuous Striving Cost Effectiveness Strategy plays a crucial role in optimizing drilling depth and casing design, allowing for drilling to be completed 17% faster with costs reduced by approximately US$ 200,000 per well.
Budi further expressed that this achievement serves as a motivator for the entire team to enhance their performance. "We hope this accomplishment will inspire all employees to consistently work hard, intelligently, thoroughly, and sincerely to achieve the targets set by the company," he concluded.
