PT Pertamina EP Prabumulih Field Preserves Sumateran Elephants in Isau-Isau Nature Park

Prabumulih - PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Prabumulih Field, a Subholding Upstream Pertamina in Sumatera Region, inaugurated a warehouse for elephant feed, equipment, and tools at the Isau-Isau Nature Park (TWA) in Lahat Regency on Thursday (01/02).

This event is one form of realization of cooperation activities between PEP Prabumulih Field and the South Sumatera Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA), Directorate General of Natural Resources Conservation and Ecosystems, Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). This cooperation is an effort to strengthen the function of the area and conserve biodiversity in the Working Area of Lahat BKSDA II Conservation Section of South Sumatera for the period 2020-2025.

The event was attended by General Manager of Zona 4, Djujuwanto, accompanied by Senior Manager of Prabumulih Field, Jemy Oktavianto, along with the management of Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) Regional Sumatera Zona 4, management of South Sumatera BKSDA, the Head of Ulak Pandan Village, and the Head of Padang Baru Village.

General Manager of Zona 4, Djujuwanto, in his speech stated that the purpose of this cooperation is to support BKSDA South Sumatera in preserving flora and fauna in the Isau-Isau Forest, especially the Sumateran Elephant, whose existence is now threatened with extinction. In addition, this is our responsibility towards social and environmental sustainability in order to realize an independent community.

Djujuwanto also expressed hope to BKSDA and the local government that this cooperation will yield good results in environmental conservation and biodiversity preservation efforts. "Let's together preserve biodiversity in Isau-Isau Nature Park so that we can contribute to preventing the extinction of Sumateran Elephants," concluded Djujuwanto.

PEP Prabumulih Field has committed through this cooperation agreement for a period of 5 (five) years starting from 2020. The contribution of PEP Prabumulih Field that has been realized until now has reached IDR 1.2 billion, consisting of supporting materials for elephant health such as supplements or additional feed, medicines and vitamins, capacity building, infrastructure development including offices, buildings, information centers, wells, water installations, gazebos, and sanitation facilities.

Conservation of Sumateran Elephants in Isau-Isau Nature Park is one form of PEP Prabumulih Field's Social and Environmental Responsibility Program (TJSL) which focuses on biodiversity issues. Not only that, PEP Prabumulih Field's commitment to implementing its TJSL program is also reflected in community empowerment programs in other areas which also focus on waste utilization issues, food security, empowerment of women and disabled children, as well as sustainable tourism issues.

With this commitment, PEP Prabumulih Field has received various awards at the local to national levels and contributed to the implementation of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) to achieve Sustainable Development Goals/SDGs, namely goal 15, Terrestrial Ecosystems, and goal 17, Partnership to achieve goals, as well as promoting the fulfillment of ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) indicators in 2023.
