Green Textile Products Dazzle at IPA Convex 2024
Jakarta - PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), a subsidiary of Upstream Pertamina Subholding, showcased an impressive array of green textile products at the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Lounge during the 48th IPA Convention & Exhibition 2024. The event, held on May 14-16, 2024, at ICE BSD City, Tangerang, featured PHE's innovative and eco-friendly initiatives.
Among the highlights was the green textile concept, which involves processing pineapple leaf fibre into beautiful and attractive fabrics. This environmentally friendly product is part of PHE's waste management efforts and includes using a solar decorticator for new and renewable energy (EBT) utilization and emission reduction.
PHE demonstrated the process of turning pineapple leaf fibre into cloth using a loom imported from one of their fostered partners, PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Subang Field, part of Zona 7 of the Jawa Regional Upstream Subholding. In collaboration with the community of Cikadu Village, Cijambe District, Subang Regency, PEP Subang Field has developed a business that transforms pineapple leaf waste into high-value commodities. The program, known as Pesona Subang (Utilization of Subang Pineapple Leaf Processed Fiber), aims to harness the economic potential of pineapple leaf fibre, which is often overlooked by farmers.
Whisnu Bahriansyah, Director HR & Business Support of PHE, emphasized the program's goal to encourage the productive use of pineapple leaf waste. “Green textile originated from Subang Regency, where most of the pineapple utilization is for the fruit, while the leaves produce significant waste. Pineapple leaf waste that was previously burned, causing air pollution, can now be processed into valuable products,” he said.
“Hopefully, the production of pineapple leaf fiber can reduce waste and pollution while improving the local economy. This program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including Goal 7 Clean Energy and Affordable, Goal 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, Goal 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and Goal 13 Climate Change Management,” added Whisnu.
Alan Sahroni, an activist and beneficiary of the Pesona Subang program, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to introduce products that support the economy of Subang residents. “With the Pesona program, we receive various facilities, including exhibitions and training activities that enhance human resource skills,” he said.
A similar green textile initiative is also underway with PEP Prabumulih Field’s fostered partners. PEP Prabumulih provides assistance and training on decorticators, tools for extracting pineapple leaf fibers, to the Tunas Jaya farmer group in Prabumulih city.
This green textile program exemplifies PHE’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, showcasing their dedication to environmentally friendly practices, social responsibility, and good corporate governance.
