PHR Successfully Increases Production at Benuang Structure, Surpassing Targets with 2,858BOEPD Output

SOUTH SUMATRA – PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR), through its Regional Sumatra Zona 4 under Subholding Upstream Pertamina, has significantly boosted oil and gas production following the successful development drilling of the Benuang (BNG)-59 well, located in Lematang Hamlet, Baturaja Village, Prabumulih City, South Sumatra, on August 10, 2024.

Initial production tests from well BNG-59 have yielded an impressive output of 2,598 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 1.51 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas. This well, situated within the Benuang structure under the Pertamina EP (PEP) Adera Field, exceeds initial expectations and represents a major achievement in PHR’s ongoing efforts to bolster production in the region.

This development forms part of PHR Regional Sumatra’s strategic initiative to strengthen the contribution of oil and gas from Zona 4, employing innovative methodologies such as sectorization and gridding of the drainage radius, alongside comprehensive geological and geophysical analysis. This approach has enabled the team to target optimal sandstone layers within the Talangakar formation.

Reza Nur Ardianto, Senior Manager of Subsurface Development & Planning (SSDP) Zone 4, stated that this recent success builds upon previous achievements in 2022–2023, with further field development activities, including infill drilling, planned from 2024 through 2029.

The BNG-059 well has exceeded its target of 261 barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOEPD), achieving 1,093% of the goal with 2,858BOEPD. Current estimates place potential reserves within the Benuang structure at 1,230 billion standard cubic feet (BSCF) of gas and 128.47million barrels of oil. To date, PHR Regional Sumatra Zona 4 has drilled 33 wells in 2024, boasting a 114% drilling success rate.

Sapto Edi Nugroho, Senior Manager of Drilling & Well Intervention (DWI) Zone 4, praised the team for their professionalism and collaboration, leading to the successful and efficient completion of the BNG-H1/BNG-059 well. The project was completed ahead of schedule, at a cost of $5.8 million USD, 7.6% below the original budget.

General Manager of Zone 4, Djudjuwanto, reaffirmed PHR’s commitment to enhancing oil and gas production in South Sumatra while prioritizing health, safety, security, and environmental standards (HSSE). As of August 2024, PHR Regional Sumatra Zone 4’s oil and gas production stands at 24,153 BOPD.

The success of this operation has been attributed to strong collaboration with local stakeholders and the community. Djudjuwanto expressed his appreciation for the support, highlighting its vital role in the company's continued contribution to national energy output.

Anggono Mahendrawan, Head of the SKK Migas Sumbagsel Representative, commended PHR’s accomplishment, noting that the Benuang-59 well will significantly contribute to state revenues while showcasing the company’s innovative approach to resource management.

The Head of SKK Migas Sumbagsel’s Operations Department, Bambang Dwi Djanuarto, further emphasised the importance of collaboration and a results-driven mindset. He also reiterated SKK Migas' ongoing support for PHR Regional Sumatra Zone 4's efforts to develop South Sumatra's oil and gas potential, while maintaining safety and environmental sustainability.
