Pertamina Subholding Upstream Regional Java Reports Strong Production for First Half of 2024
Jakarta – Pertamina's Upstream Subholding for the Java Region made a significant contribution to national oil and gas output in the first half of 2024, producing 54.5 thousand barrels of oil per day (MBOPD) and 350.2 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD). This performance is the combined result of three of the region’s key subsidiaries: PHE ONWJ, PHE OSES, and Pertamina EP Western Java.
Key contributions are as follows:
• PHE ONWJ: 25 MBOPD of crude oil and 72.1 MMSCFD of gas.
• PHE OSES: 19.9 MBOPD of oil and 36.0 MMSCFD of gas.
• Pertamina EP Western Java: 9.6 MBOPD of oil and 220.6 MMSCFD of gas.
In a statement, Agus Suprijanto, Senior Manager of Relations for Pertamina Subholding Upstream Regional Java, highlighted ongoing and future projects, including the development of the OO-OX offshore field off the northern coast of Indramayu, West Java. This field, expected to come online by the first quarter of 2026, is forecast to add 2,996 barrels of oil per day and 2.26 MMSCFD of gas.
Additionally, infrastructure investments continue, with upgrades to the subsea pipeline networks of PHE ONWJ and PHE OSES. By the end of 2024, 120 KM of new pipelines will be completed for PHE ONWJ, while 51.5 KM of PHE OSES’s pipeline network is due for completion this year.
In line with the Indonesian government's Net Zero Emissions target for 2060, Pertamina EP Western Java has been developing CO2 utilisation technology since 2002. This pilot project at Jatibarang Field aims to reduce 14.6 million tonnes of CO2 annually by 2031 through Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods, contributing to decarbonisation efforts.
To promote sustainability and improve living standards in its operational areas, Pertamina Subholding Upstream Regional Java is running 82 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes this year. These initiatives focus on four main pillars: education and culture, health, economic development, and environmental sustainability.
One of the key CSR programmes in the education sector is the "Skilled & Educated Fishermen" project, implemented by PHE ONWJ in Kandanghaur, Indramayu. For health, all subsidiaries in the region are addressing malnutrition and stunting. The Seribu Asa (Selamatkan Generasi dari Stunting dan Gizi Buruk Bersama Pertamina) programme, launched in the Kepulauan Seribu region, has already seen positive results, with 57 children moving out of the stunting zone.
In the area of economic empowerment, the "Empowered Former Migrant Workers" project in Subang supports returning Indonesian migrant workers. Meanwhile, environmental efforts include the Jam Pasir (Jaga Alam Melalui Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Pesisir) programme, which involves installing breakwaters and wave dampers. Thousands of mangroves have been planted on newly formed land, helping to prevent coastal erosion.
Pertamina’s efforts have been recognised with several prestigious awards, including the 16th Annual Global CSR & ESG Summit & Awards 2024, the CSR & Sustainable Village Development Awards 2024, and the Indonesia Sustainability Reporting Award (ISRA).
The Media & Oil and Gas Gathering event, organised regularly by Pertamina Subholding Upstream Regional Java, aims to provide updates on business operations while fostering partnerships with the media. In this edition, the event included a media skills workshop led by Tempo Institute and team-building activities.
