Monitor Fabrication of Platforms, PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia and SKK Migas Hold First Cut of Steel Ceremony for Sisi Nubi AOI Project

Tanjung Pinang - The management of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) Regional Kalimantan, a Subholding Upstream of Pertamina, and SKK Migas conducted a field visit and Management Walkthrough (MWT) activity at the fabrication site of the Sisi Nubi Area of Interest (SNB AOI) project.

This project is a significant project managed by PHI's subsidiary, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), to increase gas and oil/condensate production from the Mahakam Working Area (WK) in East Kalimantan. The First Cut of Steel Ceremony was also held at the yard of PT Meindo Elang Indah in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands, on Monday (15/1).

The MWT activity and ceremony were attended by SKK Migas Deputy Head Nanang Abdul Manaf and PHI's President Director John Anis, along with their teams. They toured the fabrication site and engaged in discussions with PT Meindo Elang Indah workers about safety at work. PT Meindo Elang Indah is the executing party for the fabrication of the SNB AOI platforms.

In his speech, John Anis revealed that the company continues to invest in active exploration and exploitation drilling activities, implementing various innovations to support the national oil and gas production targets. "The project's investment value is USD 215 million. This project is estimated to produce around 130 MMSCFD at its peak and will become the backbone of Mahakam WK production," said John.

The SNB AOI project is a development project for the offshore Sisi Nubi field located 25 kilometers offshore from the Mahakam Delta with depths ranging from about 60 meters to 80 meters. This complex project includes the fabrication and installation of six platforms, approximately 22 km of pipeline routes, modification of three existing platforms, and work below the alut water surface with very high-risk levels. The design capacity per platform averages 30 MMSCFD (million standard cubic feet per day) with the target onstream by the end of 2025.

"We all must commit to ensuring that this project runs smoothly, prioritizing workplace safety and achieving zero fatalities," added John. On this occasion, John expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude to all parties involved, including SKK Migas, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, project executors, and other related stakeholders.

Meanwhile, SKK Migas Deputy Head Nanang Abdul Manaf conveyed that the first steel cutting ceremony for the SNB AOI Project is a tangible manifestation of project progress and PHM's commitment to supporting national oil and gas production targets for 2030, which include one million barrels of oil per day and 12 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per day. The development of gas fields like SNB AOI is crucial to support the national energy transition policy.

"Upstream oil and gas activities are one of the state's activities aimed at providing affordable energy for the wider community. SKK Migas is tasked with ensuring that the energy provided by the country, especially oil and gas, can meet the needs of all Indonesian people," explained Nanang. Upstream oil and gas activities, Nanang continued, generate multiple benefits (multiplier effect).

"In every new upstream oil and gas project, a new ecosystem is created. There are new working partners, new contractors, and even new jobs created, which means creating a multiplier effect that ultimately benefits the nation," he elaborated.

Nanang highly appreciated PHI and PHM's performance in managing the Mahakam WK. Despite operating for over 50 years, this WK continues to demonstrate its existence by maintaining and even increasing its production amidst the natural decline challenges of mature fields.

In conclusion, Nanang emphasized the importance of workplace safety as a priority and a key pillar towards operational success in the field. "The success of drilling and project completion means nothing if there are fatalities that endanger workers. Workplace safety must be the top priority in carrying out duties, especially for field workers. Our work is massive and aggressive in achieving targets, but safety should never be neglected," Nanang stressed.

The volume of work for the SNB AOI platforms is very high, requiring approximately seven million working hours and involving around 2,000 workers until its peak by the end of 2024.

One of the advantages of the SNB AOI platforms is the use of an ultra-minimalist platform design with the lightest weight (approximately 350 tons) compared to previous types of platforms. Additionally, the SNB AOI platforms utilize new technology in Indonesia related to jacket structure, namely Suction Pile Foundation (SPF), and solar panels as one of the energy sources.

PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) is part of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, which manages upstream oil and gas operations and businesses according to the principles of ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) in Regional 3 Kalimantan. In 2022, through its subsidiaries and affiliates, PHI recorded oil production of 57.8 thousand barrels per day (MBOPD) and gas production of 668.3 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). In pursuit of its vision to become a world-class oil and gas company, PHI continues to innovate and apply various technologies to produce safe, efficient, reliable, compliant, and environmentally friendly energy.
