Spreading Kindness: PHE Launches 'Mentor for Indigenous Communities Sobat Bumi Scholarship (MASOBI)' Volunteer Program

Jakarta – PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), as Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding, has initiated the 'Lunch Talk Program for Volunteer Mentors of MASOBI'. This event, held at the Griya Legita Building of Universitas Pertamina on Tuesday (August 20, 2024), facilitated a casual discussion where students from indigenous communities receiving the Sobat Bumi Scholarship (MASOBI) interacted with their mentors, who are volunteer officers from Pertamina.

The program is part of PHE's commitment to the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework, emphasizing respect for indigenous rights, especially the right to education. It also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which advocates for equal access to quality education, focusing on indigenous communities within PHE’s operational areas.

Through the Perwira Volunteerism ‘Kakak Asuh’ (mentor) MASOBI program, seven MASOBI students (mentees) receive guidance from volunteer mentors for six months, from July to December 2024. The aim is to build the mentees’ confidence and provide both academic and non-academic support, ensuring they excel at the university level and have equal opportunities for future success.

The MASOBI Scholarship, launched in collaboration with PT Pertamina (Persero), PHE, Pertamina Foundation (PF), and Universitas Pertamina, has been running since 2023. It supports students from indigenous groups in Central Java, Kalimantan, and Papua as they pursue bachelor's degrees.

During the 'Lunch Talk,' Arya Dwi Paramita, Corporate Secretary of PHE, encouraged the mentees, offering guidance and valuable insights. “Through this mentoring program, we hope these seven mentees will improve their academic performance, engage in extracurricular activities, and build networks that will benefit them in the future,” Arya said.

The MASOBI Volunteerism Mentorship Program forms part of PHE’s broader social responsibility and celebrates the 17th anniversary of the Kolaborarts Program. It offers officers within the Upstream Subholding the opportunity to mentor students, fostering growth in both academic and extracurricular fields. The program includes academic and non-academic mentoring as well as counselling sessions, providing holistic support for the students' development.
