Supporting Energy Self Reliance, Pertamina EP Increases Akasia Bagus Field's Production Capacity

INDRAMAYU -- One of the efforts to increase Indonesia's energy production capacity while achieving energy self reliance in order to realize the government’s Asta Cita program, Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding is focusing on the strategic development project for Akasia Bagus Gathering Station (SP ABG) Stage 1, Akasia Bagus Field. The Akasia Bagus Field is a working area of PT Pertamina EP, an affiliate of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, which is part of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding.

To ensure the work processes and production facilities for the project run smoothly, and to prepare for the on-stream plan of Stage 1 at the ABG field, Deputy Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Oki Muraza, President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) Awang Lazuardi, PHE's Director of Development & Production Mery Luciawaty, and Acting President Director of PT Pertamina EP Muhammad Arifin, along with the management of the Holding, Subholding, and Regional levels, conducted a site visit to the field located in Terisi District, Indramayu Regency, West Java, on July 9, 2025.

The visit of the company’s Board of Directors and management during this Management Walkthrough (MWT) activity focused on the progress of the project, which is an important milestone in the development of Akasia Bagus. The facility is designed to process oil and gas with a total capacity of 9,000 barrels of liquid per day (BLPD) and 22 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).

In his report, Afwan Daroni, General Manager of Zone 7 Regional Java, explained that the upgraded production facilities will be equipped with a CO₂ Removal Package using an amine system (MDEA), a Gas Dehydration Unit, and Thermal Oxidation (TOX). The goal is to reduce CO₂, H₂S, and water condensate to meet the gas sales specifications outlined in the existing Gas Sales Purchase Agreement (GSPA) in West Java.

Acting President Director of PT Pertamina EP as the Regional Java Subholding Upstream Pertamina, Muhammad Arifin, expressed his gratitude for the full attention and support from all parties, especially Pertamina—from management, employees, and partners involved in developing the ABG project.

"This is an upgrading project, following the previous capacity of the Gathering Station, which had reached approximately 1,750 BLPD and 3 MMSCFD. Through the creativity and intuition of our workers, the results turned out to be much greater than initially predicted.  We ask for your prayers and support for the successful completion of this project," explained Arifin

In his remarks, PHE's CEO Awang Lazuardi reminded and emphasized that one of the objectives of the MWT is to ensure that all aspects of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) culture are implemented properly, while also serving as a communication tool between frontliners and company management.

Awang also expressed his hope that the project would run smoothly. “We hope that next month this project will already be on stream, so we can monetize the gas reserves in the Akasia Bagus field and contribute to increasing Indonesia’s oil and gas production. And of course, with good collaboration, the development of Stage 2 of this field can also be accelerated,” he said.

Deputy Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Oki Muraza, hopes that the development of Akasia Bagus Stage 1 project would run smoothly and continue into the next stage, Stage 2 development.

“We fully support increasing production capacity across all of Pertamina, especially within the Upstream Subholding,” he stated.

The Akasia Bagus Field, operated by Pertamina EP Regional Java Subholding Upstream Pertamina, is being developed based on a Plan of Development (POD) approved on December 27, 2017, under a two-stage mechanism, Stage 1 and Stage 2. The goal is to enhance the reliability of facilities in handling oil and gas production output, increasing capacity from the initial 1,750 BLPD and 3 MMSCFD to 9,000 BLPD and 22 MMSCFD.

Regional Java Subholding Upstream Pertamina continues to strive to increase oil and gas production figures as set out in the work plan, and to ensure its contribution to realizing the government’s Asta Cita program, energy self reliance.

PHE will continue to invest in upstream oil and gas operations and business management based on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. PHE is also firmly committed to Zero Tolerance on Bribery by ensuring fraud prevention measures are in place and maintaining a clean, bribery-free company. This includes implementing the ISO 37001:2016-certified Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP).
