Pertamina Upstream Subholding Enhances Technology Collaboration to Accelerate Production Growth
PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), as Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening technology-driven collaboration through the Networked Collaboration for New Potential (NCNP) program. This strategic initiative is designed to effectively align operational challenges with fit-for-purpose technological solutions, thereby creating sustainable value through increased oil and gas production as well as improved financial performance.
A key milestone under the NCNP framework is the introduction of a digital platform that enables technology providers to directly access operational challenge data. This platform significantly streamlines the identification and deployment of relevant technological solutions, accelerating decision-making and execution. The initiative has received positive recognition from SKK Migas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) as a strategic enabler of efficiency and innovation within Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas sector.
The initiative was showcased at the Technology Day & Business Forum 2025, held on 1–3 December 2025 in Jakarta. The forum served as a strategic engagement platform where PHE, in collaboration with technology providers, addressed national oil and gas production challenges through the promotion and adoption of fit-for-purpose and scalable technological innovations.
Positioned as a collaborative forum between Pertamina and its technology partners, the event featured a comprehensive agenda, including high-level panel discussions on the future direction of upstream oil and gas technology development, the official launch of the NCNP Technology Catalog Book, and presentations of proven success stories highlighting the implementation of innovative solutions across multiple Regions and Zones within Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding.
Commissioner of Pertamina Hulu Energi, Nanang Untung, emphasized the critical role of technology collaboration in addressing operational challenges, particularly in mature oil and gas fields experiencing natural production decline. “The Technology Day & Business Forum represents a strategic platform to bridge field-level challenges with fit-for-purpose technological solutions. Through strengthened collaboration between solution providers and asset operators, we can drive sustainable operational performance,” he stated.
During the panel discussions, representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, including the Director of Upstream Oil and Gas Business Development, Ariana Sumanto, together with Pertamina (Persero) and SKK Migas, discussed the evolving paradigm of the upstream industry. The discussions covered policy frameworks to attract investment and strategic pathways to accelerate production through the effective deployment of technology.
Concluding the forum, PHE Director of Development and Production, Mery Luciawaty, highlighted that the strong participation and engagement reflected a shared commitment to enhancing national oil and gas production. “With contributions of approximately 69% of Indonesia’s oil production and 37% of national gas production, Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding plays a pivotal role in supporting national energy resilience. This forum provides a strategic mechanism to align mature field challenges, reservoir complexity, and aging infrastructure with technologies that are fit for purpose and economically viable,” she stated.
Mery further emphasized that synergy between operational zones and technology providers will continue to be strengthened to support the achievement of the national oil production target of one million barrels per day. “Through the NCNP program and other strategic technology initiatives, Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding remains confident in its ability to address future challenges through innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions,” she concluded.
PHE remains firmly committed to responsible and sustainable upstream oil and gas operations through the consistent application of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. In addition, PHE upholds a Zero Tolerance on Bribery policy by implementing robust fraud prevention mechanisms and maintaining a strong culture of integrity, including the implementation of an Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) in accordance with ISO 37001:2016.
